Lake Buena Vista, FL-- The 2012 AAU Cross Country National Championships are in the books! Over 1,400 came out to the Winthrop University course in Rock Hill, South Carolina for a shot at a national title.
Twelve boys and girls divisions—from pee wee to high school—competed on Saturday, starting with the high school girls and boys at 9 a.m.

The California Comets took a third consecutive overall team national title, with over 120 total team points. Derby City gave the Comets a run for their money and came in a close second.
One of the greatest moments that came from the weekend wasn’t from a gold medal winner or a record setter. It came from twelve-year-old Katie Stanis of Long Island, NY. Stanis suffered a stroke a year prior and doctors and parents didn’t know if she’d survive.
Katie knew she would.
A year later, there she came crossing the finish line with a huge smile on her face and cheering, “I’m not last!” There’s much to learn from what this young lady did that day. Stanis showed all of us that ANYTHING is possible.
